KENOSHA - Speedbusters zeroed in on school and construction zones.

TODAY’S TMJ4’s Jay Olstad caught dangerous drivers right next to kids and road workers.

At about 7:30 on a Friday morning, with help from Kenosha Police Officer Tom Steiner, we started in the heart of rush hour on 60th Street. It’s not far from two schools.

"The kids aren't going to pay attention, but we as drivers need to pay attention,” Officer Steiner said.

On this morning, in a 15 mile and hour school zone, Officer Steiner caught one guy going 20 miles over.

"Did you see the school zone signs flashing back on 60th Street?" Officer Steiner said.

The driver apparently didn’t see the bright lights or the crossing guard or the kids trying to cross.

Why?

That’s what Speedbusters wanted to know.

“You got other things on your mind and you're not concentrating on what's going on,” the driver said.

It wasn’t just speeding that caused the flashing lights to go off. A lot of people weren’t paying attention, and it wasn’t just in school zones, but construction zones. Officer Steiner clocked one driver speeding past a guy working on 39th Avenue. He was pretty honest when he told us why.

"I don't watch my speed,” the driver said.

It’s why police will be out, and so will the fines.

"His fine amount is 298 dollars,” Officer Steiner said.
