Holiday Must-Haves

Holiday Must-Haves

Susan Kim

The space under the Christmas tree may look a little emptier this year. Retailers are preparing for a tough season, with shoppers spending less.

To that end, we've found some great holiday bargains that experts are calling "must-haves" this season.

You're starting to jot your gift giving list, and counting up your holiday cash. If you're looking to keep your spending in check, you aren't alone. With a struggling economy, consumers aren't rushing to pack their shopping bags.

Ellen Davis, who is with the National Retail Federation, said retail predictions are pretty dire. "This year, the national retail federation is expecting holiday sales to increase 2.2%, which is only half of the ten year average of 4.4% growth."

But shopping expert Jenn Falik said if you think outside the gift box, you can still nab fabulous finds without breaking the bank. So we asked her to put together a list of holiday "must haves."

"The gifts that we're going to see today start around $15 dollars and the average is all under $100," Falik told us.

Falik looked for gifts that were useful and unique.

For the little ones, EB's adventures is a new line of DVD's and plush toys meant to engage and entertain.
To keep your tots toasty, try sweatsuits from Primp.
To keep your loved ones comfy and warm, cuddle …in "The Nuddle." it's perfect for the frequent flier.

Jenn Falik explained why it made her list. "It's a blanket that has pockets for your feet and holes for your arms. It's so cozy, covers you up completely."

For the eco-aware, organic cocktail mixers from stirring may stir up a smile for a holiday hostess.
And to keep your tunes booming, try cardboard speakers from Fashion-Nation. You plug them into an Ipod.

"They fold flat so you can travel with them. They don't need batteries. They're 100% recycled cardboard," Falik explained.

For the beauty junkie, pick up Stila's "Record-a-Message" beauty palette.

"What they've done is allowed you to record your own message in a talking palette. I think it's great for friends you don't always get to see," Jenn demonstrated.

If you want to snag the perfect accessory… antique pearl necklaces from the Limited look chic and vintage.

Need gifts for your guy? Stock up on stylish Aldo ties.

And for the tech savvy, the compact Canon photo printer will keep your prints picture perfect.

Hunting for the perfect gift isn't always easy…but it's the gift of giving that counts.
