MILWAUKEE - As a traffic enforcer, Pewaukee police officer Ben Petterson rarely suffers from writer’s block. He finds himself writing ticket after ticket.
“The reason I stopped you is, I had you speeding,” he said to a driver.
On this day, he had help from several neighboring law enforcement agencies. It's part of what they call a "saturation" to get people to slow down in Pewaukee.
“How fast was I going?” asked the driver.
“56,” said Petterson.
When Peterson camped out on the 45 mile an hour stretch, he caught one guy who apparently didn't even have a valid license.
“According to my computer, and that's routed through the Department of Motor Vehicles, you're not reinstated. So I would talk to your attorney about this then,” he told the driver.
Forced to find another way home, the driver didn't want to talk to us on camera, and neither did another guy who was going way over the speed limit.
"62,” Peterson called out. “People don't know the magnitude that speeding causes."
Most of us know what it's like to have flashing lights illuminating our rear view mirrors, and while speeding may not be the most serious offense out there, police say it can lead to some pretty serious consequences.
"People losing control, not making the curve, you know, cars hitting trees,” said Petterson.
So here they sit, hitting people's wallets in hopes these drivers don't hit anyone else.
