Click For a Car

If you don't love to haggle, you probably don't enjoy car shopping. In fact, many people have begun dealing online.
Ashley Marshall is one of them. She's got a great set of wheels, but the key to her happiness has nothing to do with a good experience on the car lot. In fact, that was the last place she wanted to visit after a disappointing experience.
"I had gone to the lot with my mother to buy a car and it was an awful experience and we both left pretty much in tears," she recalled.
This time, she found a new way to buy a new car, without the haggling and pressure tactics she felt in the past. She just went online, right to the dealership Web site.
"They had a little online basket and all of a sudden I was doing all my research and putting cars in the basket," she told us.
The dealer's site used special software that let her pick her vehicle, negotiate a firm price, and even offered options to secure financing, trade in her old car and buy extras, like an extended warranty- all without ever leaving home.
David Thomas, a partner at the dealership, said it's a very easy system. "It's user friendly, it's convenient, it empowers the consumer and you can do all the research online and bring in a salesperson or the dealership when you're ready for them."
And car sales are rolling online, with a growing number of dealerships offering the option. These software programs walk you through the purchase from start to finish. The only time you have to venture out is to pick up your new vehicle. Older dealership Web sites allowed searches, but required you to leave contact information or leads for salesmen to call. That turned a lot of people off.
"People love to buy. They just hate to be sold and this is just meant to help them with that," explained software developer Brian Hoecht.
That new sales software is especially popular with women, said car dealer David Thomas.
"It tends to appeal to more females because they tend to do a better job of shopping; they're a little more savvy."
Ashley said it made all the difference for her. "After having so many bad experiences at car dealerships I was very wary, so once I got in, it was a great experience."
If a dealership near you doesn't offer this software yet, you can contact a dealership in another area. However, each state has different rules about what's required when delivering the vehicle, so you'll have to be sure you're following the proper regulations.
