MILWAUKEE – TODAY’S TMJ4’s Speedbusters gets stacks of emails about speeding every week…but of all those emails, usually they're from concerned mothers and fathers.
That is until this week.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Jay Olstad: “How old are you?”
“12, 12 years old," Jason Bloch said.
Bloch describes himself as an inquisitive boy who likes to fix problems.
"At 12, I didn't know what inquisitive meant," Olstad said.
"Neither did I. I had to look it up in the dictionary," Bloch said.
Bloch lives in the 300 block of Hawley Road where a lot of drivers speed way over the 30 mile an hour speed limit.
"It's like, I don't want to ride my bike through this. I'd rather go around the block than get myself killed," Bloch said.
That's why he, along with his 10-year-old sister, wanted to test this street on their own.
With the Speedbusters radar gun in hand, it didn't take long to find the speeders.
"40," Bloch yelled out after a car whizzed by.
That was just the beginning.
"48," Bloch yelled out.
That's 18 miles over, speeds Bloch and his family know can kill.
"Last year in August, I actually lost a dog out here," Bloch said.
Bloch says there have been a lot of accidents on this stretch. In fact, the cemetery fence across the street from his house had to be replaced several times because of cars going right through it.
"Something serious is going to happen and it's going to be too late and then someone is going to say, 'we should have done something,’” said Bloch's grandmother, Dottie Eastman.
She fears that day will come sooner rather than later, but her grandson is doing everything he can to make sure it doesn't.
"Why bother going that fast? Look at the sign. The sign is right there and we have a sign up the road,” Bloch said.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Speedbusters passed along Bloch's complaint to the Milwaukee police.
