Speedbusters: Grange Avenue
Jay Olstad
MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee mother Shannon Williams isn't a racing fan.
"You can just see it. Sometimes they're racing, they're racing on purpose," said Williams.
She gets enough of it outside her home on the 1400 block of W. Grange Ave.
"I just get really nervous," she said.
This mother of two emailed Speedbusters asking for help.
"You try to teach them not to run out here, but if they ever did, I'm telling you they wouldn't have a chance," said Williams.
So we thought who better to clock speeders on this 30 mile an hour zone than someone who lives with it everyday.
"A monkey can do it. I just compared myself to a monkey," said Jay Olstad as he showed Williams how to work the speed gun.
But what she found didn’t surprise her.
"45. 46, yep," said Williams.
And we found the same.
"45, 46," said Olstad.
Shannon is not alone; TODAY'S TMJ4 received multiple emails from people who live on W. Grange Ave. saying it's just way too fast.
They're asking police to come out and patrol.
"There needs to be more law enforcement out here, because in the 7 years I've lived here I've never seen a cop clocking once," said Williams.
"This is Jay Olstad with TMJ4 calling," said Olstad.
We left police a message asking about that. So far no response. But in the past, officials told us much of it is based on neighbor complaints. The more you complain, the more chances you'll see an officer in your area.
"50," said Olstad who clocked a driver speeding by.
So while drivers continue to speed, Shannon worries what may happen if it continues.
"It would not be pretty," she said.
