Speedbusters: MFPD

Speedbusters: MFPD

Jay Olstad

MENOMONEE FALLS - Over the past several months--we've received a lot of emails from viewers asking Speedbusters to come to their neighborhood--including Menomonee Falls. TODAY'S TMJ4'S Jay Olstad tagged along with the MFPD recently. What officers found even surprised them!

In his 20 years on the force, Officer Dave Meyer has pulled over a lot of people. On this day we find him on Appleton Avenue in Menomonee Falls. 13% of the crashes in the city happen on Appleton.

"There's a lot of pedestrian traffic around here," Officer Meyer explains.

He's seen a lot on this stretch...but he's never seen a Milwaukee County Bus going 48 miles per hour in a 30 mile an hour zone.

"I've got to admit...this is a first," Officer Meyer says.

The driver, who had passengers on board, didn't want to talk on camera. So Officer Meyer took care of the talking for us...giving him a $109 ticket.

"18 over is moving pretty good," Officer Meyer exclaims.

Although officials with Milwaukee County declined an on-camera interview...they did tell us they do not condone this behavior and plan to discipline the driver.

But it wasn't just the bus driver he pulled over. Driver after driver found themselves looking up at Officer Meyer and Meyer looked back with an expensive ticket.

By now you might be saying, "Speeding isn't that big of a deal...many of us have done it."

But Officer Meyer warns, "It's the main contributor to accidents. That would be my biggest argument against that."

So Meyer and his fellow officers will stay on the streets...hoping one of these days we all get the message.

Thanks to state grants, Menomonee Falls Police will be out in full force this summer cracking down on speeders and drunk drivers.
