MILWAUKEE -
Bucketworks can be described as a 'health club for the brain'. Instead of exercising your body...you exercise your inspiration.
Walk inside downtown Milwaukee's 'Bucketworks' on a given night, and you may first experience sensory overload!
From a Brazilian dance demonstration called 'Capoeira', to theater practice, to a laptop 'party'...There's something for everyone at Bucketworks!
Executive director James Carlson explains, "People come here, and they really share their passions openly with each other."
It's all about space: 22,000 square feet of it! Bucketworks members are allowed to basically do whatever they want inside that space. "What we do is just offer environments like this, where people are building, and making art together," Carlson says.
Mike Fleisch and Kara Krueger are using the space for an art-inspired wedding shower. Everybody has to paint a picture for the couple.
"We wanted to do something where people made something and created stuff," Mike says.
The most popular spot is the 'Fab Lab'. It's basically a creative playroom for adults! Stacie Van De Loo is a volunteer at Bucketworks, and loves the Fab Lab.
"It's like an explosion of materials in here, but also the ability to put it together, and there's always someone around to help you connect," she explains.
It's not just traditional art at Bucketworks. If the computer keyboard is your paintbrush...Then the 'Entrepreneur's Greenhouse' is for you! Justin Kruger uses the lab to help build his business, Social Helix. He likes the feeling of community.
"Sometimes one of the other Bucketworks members might need help with technology, and this gives them access to people who are doing it on a regular basis," Justin says.
Courtney Robinson recently joined the Bucketworks staff. She says, "It's a really unique opportunity for people of all different backgrounds to cross paths, and share things maybe they didn't realize they have to offer to other people."
Justin says matter-of-factly, "Passionate people seem to get along very well together, no matter what their passions are."
So whether you're an actor or an attorney....an artist or an accountant...You likely have skills to share, and something new to learn, at Bucketworks!
Anyone can join Bucketworks. Costs vary depending on your level of membership. It's located on North 6th Street near Vliet in downtown Milwaukee.
