Speedbusters: West Beloit Road In New Berlin

NEW BERLIN - Temperatures are starting to heat up, and so are the speeders.

TODAY’S TMJ4’s Jay Olstad got an e-mail from a New Berlin family worried about lead foot drivers.

Jay Olstad took the Speedbusters radar gun to New Berlin to check it out.

It may not be one of the best known streets in New Berlin...

Tim says,

"Especially when it warms up. It seems things get crazy out here,” Tim Hensel said.

According to neighbors...

“They're moving pretty fast,” Eric Thomas said.

It's one of the fastest.

“It's probably gotten worse in the last few years,” Hensel said.

Neighbors Hensel and Thomas aren't lying.

Jay Olstad: "48, 49.”

Jay Olstad caught people going over the speed limit in the 18000 block of West Beloit Road.

Jay Olstad: "50 miles an hour in a 35."

Either people don't know the limit is 35, or they just don't care.

“We had some slow children at play signs and they were stolen,” Hensel said.

New Berlin police don't patrol the area as much as neighbors would like, but one officer says it's based on complaints. The more neighbors complain, the better the chance you'll see officers in your neighborhood.

Jay Olstad: “50!”

Neighbors hope Jay Olstad’s speed gun will help people slow down and follow the law, otherwise they fear the worst.

“We have a couple children and we're really nervous when they're outside playing because they really move down this road,” Thomas said.

So they're asking us to relay this message…

“Please slow down,” Hensel said. “There are kids here. There's nothing worth risking my child's life."
