The Summer Olympics
Local diver talks about his best friend David Boudia, a top Olympic contender
MENOMONEE FALLS - Danny Cox of Menomonee Falls was born to dive.
"I don't ever remember being away from a pool," Danny says.
He feeds off the danger of diving.
"You could get seriously hurt diving, so that was always so exciting for me," Danny admits.
The 24-year-old just competed in the Olympic trials a few weeks ago. He didn't make it to London, but says he left it all out there. "That was just an incredible time with close friends."
One of those close friends: David Boudia, Danny's roommate at Purdue, is a Team USA diving favorite in London.
"We have a very strong friendship, and I've seen him...in his hard times, in his good times," Danny explains.
The two men competed against each other at trials, but when the competition ends, they're friendship continues.
"We enjoy doing a lot of normal things -- hang out, watch TV, play video games," Danny says.
Danny is even going to be David's best man at his October wedding! "That's another very incredible thing I'm looking forward to--walking him into the next step in his life."
The two have been keeping in touch via Skype, and Danny actually flew to London a couple days ago to watch David compete.
"He could win a medal, definitely," Danny asserts.
At this point, Danny plans to retire from competitive diving, but he says, "Diving... I've always known, will never be too far from me."
Danny plans to pursue a career in Marketing, and coach diving on the side.
