"I Do" Apps
Planning a wedding can easily have a bride tied up in knots. Now a growing number of couples are saying "I Do" to wedding planning apps.
The wedding date is set. The photographer is booked. Now, bride Rebecca Lysen has to finish planning the party.
"There's so many little things, and you have one time to get it right," Rebecca explains.
To help stay organized, Rebecca doesn't reach for a chunky wedding binder--she reaches for her smartphone! Today, a range of wedding planning applications are available for mobile devices. They vow to help with everything from picking out wedding rings to decorating the venue.
Anja Winikka with theknot.com says they put the power of a planner in your palm. "They're there for brides on-the-go, so that they can plan their wedding whenever they want, and however they want," Winikka suggests.
It all starts with a picture-perfect dress. Both the brides wedding genius and the wedding dress look book showcase thousands of different styles. You can browse by categories like price, designer, and silhouette.
"Even better, once you've found the dress that you're looking for, it geo-targets to where you live and finds all the bridal salons in your area that carry that dress," Winikka says.
If finding a ring is your thing, Sally Kilbridge with Brides Magazine recommends the Tiffany Ring Finder. It comes packed with a slew of sparkling ideas. It's great for your guy, too!
"All he has to do is get a hold of one of your current rings, put it right down on the iPhone, and he can actually get your wedding ring size," Kilbridge exclaims.
Then, download My Mobile Checklist. It promises to help you stay on top of your to-do's. Have a burning bridal question? Winikka recommends wedding 9-1-1, a virtual message board and support system.
"This is a way for a bride, if she has a last minute question, to find out the answer to ASAP. So if she's standing at her rehearsal, and she needs to know where the groomsmen stand, this is where to go," Winikka says.
It's where Rebecca goes when she needs to de-stress. "It really lets me vent my frustrations, and just maybe get a laugh from other brides."
When it comes to decorations, Color-Toy can help you develop a pretty palette. For all of the finishing touches, Kilbridge recommends Etsy addict.
"Etsy addict puts the world's largest marketplace of handcrafted items into your pocket. So if you're looking for a peacock feather boutonniere, or a ring pillow made out of moss," she suggests.
While apps like these are convenient and fun, Kilbridge has some advice. "You're never going to find an app that's going to help you adjust your veil the day of the wedding, but in terms of organizing your wedding and keeping you on track, they really do a fantastic job."
With wedding 9-1-1 in hand, Rebecca hopes her big day goes off without a hitch.
"What I'm looking forward to most on my wedding day is just being able to celebrate me and my fiancé and our love," Rebecca gushes.
The apps range in price from free to $2.99. Our experts say they are all easy to use.
