Go Fly a Kite
By Christopher Donovan
TMJ4 STUDIO - Memorial Day weekend means kite flying, and the 20th annual Family Kite Festival. Scott Fisher from Gift of Wings came on Live at 11 to talk about it.
On Saturday, May 26, and Sunday May 27, the Kite Society of Wisconsin and Gift of Wings are presenting the Time Warner Cable Family Kite Festival in Veterans Park on Milwaukee's lakefront.
On both days the event will begin at 10:00 am, and runs through 6:00 pm, with the grand launch of 400+ kites at noon!
Chicago Fire and Team Pegasus precision kite flying teams will be performing three times each day during the event. They are world renowned professional kite flying teams from Chicago & Puerto Rico.
In addition, Yves Laforest and Jean Lemire from Montreal, Canada, will be making their sixth appearance with their large 75 foot Teddy Bear kite, and this year, two Super Giant Octopus kites.
Josh Gordon (19) and his brother Zak Gordon (14) will be flying several spectacular stunt kite routines throughout the day. These kids are great!
Milwaukee's own Mike Delfar, Paul Koepke, and Jim Wirt, all professional kite flyers, will also be performing.
This family event is free to all, with free parking.
They will also be giving away free kites to the first 100 kids who participate in the “Children’s Hospital Kids Mad Dash." Imagine 100 kids launching their kites all at the same time. Look out!
Free Kite flying lessons will be offered and kites are available for sale during the event.
How about a celebrity Rokkakku Kite Battle? It’s all new this Spring!
