Two Men Who Give Back are Positively Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE - A pastor and associate pastor are doing their part to improve the world. Both are minister at Genesis Baptist Church in Milwaukee. Both have full time jobs, and make it a mission to use their faith to elevate others.

Associate Pastor Glen Jones has been a machinist for more than thirty years, but he often thinks about ways to help the less fortunate. He notes, "What better way to do something about that than to help someone who may not have a job or help someone who may be low in their self esteem.

When he's not leading the church, Pastor A. L. Douglas works for the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department.

Douglas believes more people need to know they have power. He goes on to say, "The one major goal is to have them know that they are the difference and that they can make a difference."

The church recently reached out to three Milwaukee Tae Kwon Do champions previously featured on Positively Milwaukee.

Reverend Jones spearheaded an effort to raise money for the family this past Christmas. The family headed up by a single father received about 7 hundred dollars. Jones hopes to spread happiness. He says, "What goes through my mind is to see a smile on a child's face to see a smile on a fathers face, trying to do something, trying to keep their family together. That's what it's all about."

The church recently took up donations of toys for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. The items will go to kids living with cancer. Jones points out, "I just could not sit there and not do anything at all. It just touched me to help someone else."

Pastor Douglas sums it up this way. "No man is an island and no man stands alone. Everyone needs somebody."
