Pulling for Others is Positively Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - On a recent fall afternoon, the crowds gathered, the competitors were in place, and the ropes were secured.
Several teams got ready for a colossal task.
Their mission? Pull a Midwest Airlines Boeing 717 aircraft 15 feet across the tarmac in less than 10 seconds.
It was all part of the "2009 Bob and Brian Plane Pull presented by Midwest Airlines and Laacke & Joys." The winning team got free tickets to any Midwest Airlines destination. But the strong armed friends were pulling for more than a prize. They were raising money to help the MACC Fund fight childhood cancer.
Tim Kujawa was on this year's winning team. His group managed to pull the plane in under 7 seconds.
Kujawa tells TMJ4's Mark Was, "Its good camaraderie to get the guys together and have some fun and to raise money for the MACC Fund. Just like football and every other sport it's a team effort. Just like MACC Fund is a team, Froedtert, Children's Hospital and every other hospital is trying to get together and find a cure."
Kujawa knows firsthand the importance of the MACC Fund. He was 9 when he lost his arm to bone cancer.
Kujawa recalls, "I had a lump on my forearm for a few months, doctors thought it was a bad bruise. I was playing baseball and got hit on the bump. At the time, doctors did a biopsy and there was a blood clot there. Underneath, that is where they saw the cancer cells."
But today Tim is healthy and happy. He hopes that through events like this, one day childhood cancer becomes a contest that everyone can win.
