Positively MilwaukeeMilwaukee Competition Striking a ChordBy Carole MeekinsThe Anderson and Roe Piano Duo have been called the Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire of the Keyboards. YouTube videos of Elizabeth Joy Roe and Greg Anderson have gotten more than a million hits. Roe got her start right here in Milwaukee. She won the PianoArts competition back in 1999. Sue Medford founded the contest. She says, "Watching her develop as an artist has been one of the highlights of my life actually. I met her first when she was 17. Now I'm seeing her play in Carnegie Hall and all over the world, it's just wonderful!" The PianoArts competition has attracted classical pianists from all over the country. Medford notes, "We have a lot to offer the world. We have the finest musicians right here in our city. The draw to bring in young talent to Milwaukee to participate in this contest is because of our own people." Anderson and Roe played a special concert at the Bradley center June 18. And as they continue to share their talents around the world, it's clear, the two are making harmonies and winning new fans. |
