Dad Getting Support To Combat Violence

By Katie DeLong

MILWAUKEE - A Milwaukee dad is getting more support in his effort to combat violence. TODAY’S TMJ4’s Carole Meekins shows us how a high profile Milwaukee resident is joining in a fight that is positively Milwaukee. “I want to get Racine, South Milwaukee, Oak Creek, everybody,” Tracey Dent said. Back in February, we showed you the planning stages of a walk to promote peace and fight violence. “I want to be a role model to my daughter and to other people,” Dent said. Dent came up with the idea. He worries about keeping his toddler daughter safe. “I can’t feel safe having her outside...for fear of her getting hit by a stray bullet,” Dent said. Now, former MPS Superintendent and Marquette Professor Howard Fuller is lending his support. “You can help promote peace and positive change for the city of Milwaukee,” Fuller said. Fuller is featured in TV commercials encouraging folks to take part in the Walk Toward Wellness in May. Organizers hope the walk draws at least 10,000 people. The event is another reminder that we all must do our part in giving our kids a safe and strong future. The Walk for Wellness takes place May 17. It starts at 35th and Wisconsin and will end in Sherman Park.
