MILWAUKEE - A gift from a local accounting firm adds up to success.
It's all part of a national effort that reaches out to others, and this past Friday, TODAY’S TMJ4’s Carole Meekins found out why they are positively Milwaukee.
More than 300 volunteers from Deloitte are spending this day giving back. Employees from Milwaukee’s largest big four accounting firm got away from the books to donate their business skills.
They're at Repairers of the Breach, a Milwaukee daytime shelter and resource center for the homeless.
Repairers of the Breach services about 150 clients a week and officials say the need is growing.
“The conditions of poverty in Milwaukee and the number of those in homeless conditions is just compounding by the week,” Maccanon Brown, executive director of Repairers of the Breach said.
Deloitte employees are giving advice about job interviews and using the internet.
“I think it’s our opportunity to give back to the community that we serve in so many ways. It’s really the personal face to face interaction and feeling like we really made a difference in the community we serve,” Bill Michaels, a partner with Deliotte Consulting LLP said.
“It is a beautiful demonstration of how people can be in solidarity. Even though they walk in totally different paths, they can be in unity and support each other in doing something good,” Brown said.
By being here, Deloitte workers are seeing the human faces behind the statistics, and these accounting firm employees are discovering that the human touch is an important part of the equation.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Carole Meekins: “Bill, if you were to say one thing as to why you do this, what’s the most rewarding part of all of this?”
“We’ve learned how blessed we are and remembering we’ve got to get back to the community, we’ve got to give back to folks and really make a difference,” Michaels said.
Deloitte's national impact day involved 40,000 volunteers from all over the country.
