MILWAUKEE - A local Boy Scout troop has seven reasons to celebrate.

When TODAY’S TMJ4’s Carole Meekins stopped by Ascension Lutheran Church on Milwaukee’s south side, she found a group that is positively Milwaukee.

History is being made as members of Boy Scout Troop 11 practice for its Eagle Court of Honor.

One bit of trivia: Troop 11 is the oldest Boy Scout Troop in the state. It was formed back in 1917!

For the first time ever, the troop has seven Eagle Scouts at one time. It's very rare that so many young men from one troop reach scout’s highest and most prestigious honor.

Something else you may not realize is only two percent of all Boy Scouts in the U.S. ever reach the Eagle Scout level.

Scoutmaster Ryan Antczak plays a major role shaping these young lives.

“You watch them grow up except without the diapers, so it’s nice,” Antczak said.

“I think a scoutmaster like Ryan Antczak, he’s a perfect role model, he's a mentor, he’s a leader, I think a lot of kids need that in their lives,” Eagle Scout Daniel Clifford said.

The Eagle Scouts are convinced that scouting makes them better citizens.

“I've become a leader, simple as that. I’ve been able to lead this troop, lead people at school and other volunteer organizations at the same time,” Eagle Scout Lincoln Cruz said.

"When I joined scouting, I was a trouble maker. I almost got kicked out of scouting. They gave me a second chance and now I’m an Eagle Scout,” Eagle Scout Bradley Schultz said.

These classes teach the young men the value of community service.

They're also discovering the importance of honesty, respect and integrity. Antczak knows he's molding lives.

“It makes you cry. Obviously I’m not going to do that in front of these guys, but it’s very touching, very touching,” Antczak said.

For these young men, scouting imparts wisdom, and leaves an imprint that will shape their lives for years to come.

TODAY’S TMJ4’s Carole Meekins: “Are you a better person because you’re an Eagle Scout?”

“I am who I am because of scouting. I’ve changed so much because of scouting and because of Ryan and all these other people that are here,” Schultz said.

Troop 11's Eagle Court of Honor takes place Sunday, May 18 at 2:00 p.m. at the Milwaukee County War Memorial.
