MILWAUKEE - The beat goes on for a local a writer, singer, producer and engineer.
His harmonies are hitting the right notes with some key music executives.
In Positively Milwaukee, TODAY’S TMJ4’s Carole Meekins shows how this young man just got a huge break.
Carlton Thompson Jr., or CT has a lot to sing about these days.
His song "Roots” is featured on the soundtrack for the movie "Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins", starring Martin Lawrence.
“I mean, I was ecstatic!” Thompson said.
Thompson only had a few days to write “Roots.” The producer was looking for a final song on the soundtrack. Thompson had to act quick to make the deadline.
Thompson actually recorded “Roots” from the basement of his own home, and what happened is the former executive from Motown actually heard the song, loved it and used it on his next soundtrack.”
“I had a feeling it had a good chance. I just had that gut feeling,” Thompson said.
“My father at a young age really showed me the ropes. Since I was about ten years old I’ve been doing this,” Thompson said.
Thompson hopes his music and lyrics lead him to a successful recording career. His goal: keep pushing himself.
“Really understand you can always take it further and to really challenge yourself and to really know that there are not any limits at all to what you do,” Thompson said.
Thompson feels blessed his melody made the cut. He got paid and will get royalties, and his appealing tune could be just the first stop on Thompson’s road to stardom.
“I’m really excited about where I’m going right now. I’m having fun with it,” Thompson said.
Thompson is the only unsigned independent artist on the soundtrack.
