MILWAUKEE - Some troops in Iraq are getting memories of Wisconsin, all thanks to a 7-year-old student from Lannon Elementary School in Waukesha.

It's a mission of love.

They've got the faces of angels and a heart of gold. Some local Brownies and their moms are packing up love.

They're busy…because they are about to send 387 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to troops in Iraq.

Seven year old Kaitlyn Greupink came up with the idea.

“To bring a little taste of home to soldiers because they are so far away,” Kaitlyn said.

Kaitlyn’s cousin and her mom also join in the effort. It’s a tribute in part to Kaitlyn’s brother who is serving in Iraq. Kaitlyn’s brother is a marine who has served three tours of duty in Iraq.

Staff Sgt. Jason Sohm is following a proud family heritage.

“Jason is my son. He’s going to be 26 years old in May. He’s a third generation marine growing up always wanting to be just like grandpa,” Melissa Greupink saod.

This is the second year the family has used Girl Scout treats to reach out to our heroes.

“Kaitlyn started this project last year with 52 boxes, and our goal this year was to double that which we exceeded by a couple hundred more boxes of cookies to send over to the troops,” Melissa said.

Troops will get more than caramel delights and thin mints. The girls will also ship them letters of thanks.

We're told that Girl Scout cookies sent to Iraq are devoured in minutes.

That makes the Brownies very happy.

So as our men and women fight to keep us free, these young ladies have found a sweet mission...to salute our troops.

“We appreciate all they have done and continue to do. This is just a little bit of our gratitude for them,” Melissa said.

Next year Kaitlyn and her family hope to send 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to troops in Iraq.
