Co-Workers Donate Time To Save Woman's Life

MILWAUKEE - A local woman has a warm message to co-workers at Aurora Saint Luke’s Medical Center.
Her message is simple: thank you for helping to save her life.
Zandra Davis and her family are feeling grateful.
Davis is a nursing assistant, and she is battling bone cancer. She's gotten support from family, friends…even strangers.
“The idea that they were touched and they had empathy for me, I'm just so totally grateful!” Davis said.
Davis was working at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center when she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer: a sarcoma was found on her arm.
“It started off as a small bump,” Davis said.
Her finances were strapped and her insurance was depleted, so dozens of co-workers donated paid time off to help.
Davis is so happy that workers in the intensive care unit at St. Luke’s Medical Center actually donated their own time to help her get treatment. They really saved her life.
“I just want to thank everyone. I am just humbly grateful. Thank you Aurora. Thank you co-workers. Thank you,” Davis said.
Davis’ daughter Nicole Young is also a nurse with Aurora. She marvels at the kindness of the Aurora staff.
“They reached out to us and every day that I’m at work, I go up to the different units and floors and I thank them for being there for my mom,” Davis said.
The best news: Davis’ prognosis is great.
“It has been a journey, but I’m good. I’m good,” Davis said.
As Davis faces the fight of her life...she knows that she is not alone.
TODAY’S TMJ4’s Carole Meekins: “Do you think there’s something special about your mom that motivated people to do this for her?”
“Oh yes. My mom always gave back. My mom would give back rubs, massages and counsel to them. They're glad to give back to my mother,” Young said.
Carole Meekins: “You’re blessed.”
“I am truly blessed,” Davis said.
You can just feel her positive energy. Davis just finished chemotherapy and is looking forward to going back to work.
