OOSTBURG- Oostburg, Wisconsin is a quaint town steeped in Midwestern values.
It's easy to spot signs of patriotism.
American pride is alive and well in Oostburg and at Dutchland Plastics. Every Friday, employees at the company wear red as a way to salute our troops.
Dutchland provides workers with red shirts. They're symbols of the sacrifices of soldiers.
Employee Stephanie Kincaid is proud of the effort. She notes, "It's really good to know that we support them through thick or thin, bad or good. We stand by them no matter what."
To CEO's Daven and Carl Claerbout, Red Shirt Day is about gratitude and appreciation. Character traits learned from their parents. Carl Claerbout explains, "We don't believe in holding grudges or looking down on people. We're no better than anyone else and they're no better than us. Just treat others like you want to be treated."
Daven Claerbout wants troops to know they are not forgotten. He goes on to say, "When you're in an airport, anywhere and you see somebody in fatigues, don't be afraid to just walk up to them and thank them."
And with thousands still in harms way, we on the homefront also have a duty. Never forget the heroes who never forget us.
