Positively Milwaukee
Local law firm promoting bike helmet safety for families
MILWAUKEE- Bike helmet safety is something parents and kids are reminded about every summer.
Now, thanks to a local law firm, lots of kids will ride a little safer on their bikes because of free helmets.
It's a story that's positively Milwaukee.
"How do you like your helmets," asked Milwaukee lawyer Bob Habush.
It's not a place you would expect to find one of Milwaukee's top trial lawyers, but there's a reason why Habush is here handing out bike helmets to young kids.
"It's a wonderful program and we are happy to do it," said Bob Habush.
His law firm, Habush, Habush & Rottier has handed out more that 100,000 free helmets statewide over the past 13 years. For Bob, it's a personal journey after his daughter suffered a preventable brain injury from a faulty vaccine.
"So when it came time to doing something financially I thought preventing injury to kids was the best way to go," Habush told TODAY'S TMJ4 Reporter Charles Benson .
Safe Kids Wisconsin helps distribute the helmets and teach bike safety.
"We want kids to be active riding their bikes or scooters but we want them to be safe while they are doing it," said Lisa Klindt-Simpson with Safe Kids Wisconsin. "So we want them to wear a help each every time they are on anything with wheels."
The kids had one message for Bob Habush: "Thank you!"
Habush's law firm hands out free helmets to kids all over the state. Many in his firm are trained volunteers to help fit the helmets properly.
