Bronzeville project making new history
MILWAUKEE- Another milestone in the Bronzeville Development Project: a crowd gathered February 8th, to inaugurate the newly remodeled city arts building on 642 West North Avenue.
Alderwoman Milele Coggs said, "We stand here today to show you that this is something to believe in."
The historic building was built in 1876 as a firehouse and renovated into an office building for two development firms.
The $500,000 project received $171,000 in city funds. Mayor Barrett says it's all about making the neighborhood strong.
He noted, "We need quite simply for people to spend money in this neighborhood. That's what this is all about bringing resources here, and keeping resources here so we can have more economic development." Now, a once blighted site is a new source of pride for neighbors and the city.
