Early Christmas For Hopkins St School Kids
Katie DeLong
MILWAUKEE - Christmas arrived early for kids at Milwaukee’s Hopkins Street School. Many of those students live in poverty, but the kids got a treat thanks to Santa and Santa’s helpers from area high schools.
Santa got a lot of the credit Friday morning. He gave kids big smiles, but his elves from Oconomowoc High School and Hartford High School did a lot of the work and came bearing gifts.
Damonte Walker was excited because kids he doesn't know, thought of him at Christmas.
"It’s nice. It's great. Because we get other people's presents that we never had,” Walker said.
Torcell Fox enjoyed meeting the older kids.
"They’re great. And good. And helpful,” Fox said.
The elves brought supplies for school and items to help younger kids through the winter.
Angelique Wells put it best.
“It’s things you like and things you need,” Wells said.
The high school students also learned a holiday lesson that will last.
“Just to come out here and see these kids, and the smiles on their faces really touched me,” one high school student said.
The high school students bought presents for 230 kids at Hopkins. They say some of them used the money their parents gave them for Christmas, and bought presents for the Hopkins kids.
