Hometown Heroes: Friendly Faces Send Troops Home for Holidays
Good news for military personnel traveling through Mitchell International this holiday season: they will once again be greeted by friendly faces, thanks to a military canteen supplied by the USO Wisconsin.
Candyce Hanus, Executive Director of USO, Wisconsin says, "It's just a way to give them space a lot of them will sit in the airport before their flight actually takes off."
USO Wisconsin got a request from Great Lakes Naval Station to offer support to those traveling through Mitchell this season. The organization offered the same relief last year.
Hanus notes, "We will be setting up a canteen. We will provide food and beverages video games. They will have a place where they can work on their laptops and contact their families."
The temporary canteen goes up at Mitchell on December 17th.
Hanus explains, "This is important to us because family is really important to our military and they spend a lot of time away whether it’s at boot camp or training. Anytime we can have to bring families together is just a blessing for us."
Thanks to USO, Wisconsin holiday travel will be a little less hectic for our heroes going home for the holidays.
