Family Coach

Just because the holidays end, doesn't mean your stress does. We are busier and busier, and spend more of our home life working on outside tasks.

So how can families organize their lives, and still spend quality time together? Some families are turning to family coaches.

Rachel Reid is one of them. She told us her life was such a juggling act, she felt out of control. So she called a fmaily coach for help.

Kay Cannon, a coach with the International Coaching Federation, said she's getting more calls like Rachel's.

"You work with a coach when you're really trying to put all the puzzle pieces together," Cannon explained. "Coaching is growing at a rapid rate all over the world, and we see approximately 20 percent of coaches that are now specializing in family and relationship coaching."

Whether it's organizing a laundry room, getting kids to cooperate, or setting up a command central, family coaches come up with a plan that works for you and your family.

The Reid's family coach is Sandra Anderson-- who explained the biggest hurdle families face.

"They just need a jump start to get in a routine again, and typically it's that and clutter," Anderson said.

That little bit of help made a world of difference to the Reids.

"I'm really excited. I've already changed and made myself a little kitchen office like she recommended. And my little boy, the three-and-a-half year old is making his bed everyday," Rachel Reid said.

Cannon cautions…not all coaches are created equal. It's important to do your homework, and look for someone qualified…and preferably someone certified.

"Iit's very, very important that you make sure you're working with someone who is coming at it from a professional background," Cannon suggested.

There are no specific licenses required to call oneself a coach. The International Coach Federation does offer three levels of certification.

It's not cheap either. An initial consultation with a family coach usually costs between $100-$300 an hour, depending on what you want to accomplish. You'll probably pay an hourly fee for additional visits.
