On Deaf Ears Follow Up: Interview With Amy and Dylan Boehler

Katie DeLong

Deaf Wisconsin children with insurance are being denied payment for hearing aids, and one Wisconsin lawmaker with ties to the insurance industry is refusing to let parents even have their voices heard on the issue.

In many states, insurance companies are required to cover hearing aids for children.

That is not the case in Wisconsin.

Some children here are going without the help they need, or their families are going through great financial struggles to pay for the life altering hearing aids.

Representative Frank Lasee heads the Assembly Insurance Committee. So far Lasee has refused to even allow a public hearing on the issue.

TODAY’S TMJ4’s John Mercure broke this story, and he appeared on Live at 4:30 Tuesday with Amy and Dylan Boehler.

Dylan has substantial hearing loss and his life has been opened up by his hearing aids. Amy is his mother.
