Dirty Dining: Rosie's Sealicious Seafood

By Courtny Gerrish

MILWAUKEE - It was shut down by the city once before. Now this place on Milwaukee's north side remodeled and reopened, but its health violations are back.

Rosie's Sealicious Seafood on 34th and Villard. Things were so bad at the old Rosie's the city issued an "order to suspend" in the summer of 2006.

Now Rosie's has been remodeled and is back in business but not without problems in the kitchen.

An employee tells us "it was pretty much minor minor things."

Here's what inspectors found. Catfish being cut up on a band saw in the back hallway. That's a cross contamination risk. So is this, raw meats, fish and poultry stored over ready to eat food in a cooler. Cases of fish stored on the floor in the kitchen.

"We opened last week. Inspectors came in here and there was a few things we had to get together. They're already taken care of," an employee said.

Turkey pieces and chicken pieces not being properly cooled.

And food not being kept hot enough. Safe temperature is 135 degrees. Spaghetti was at 90 degrees.

We were not allowed back in the kitchen.

Instead, employees let us shoot video through a side window.

The city will do a re-inspection in a few weeks. Rosie's invited us back to see the kitchen then.
