Dirty Dining: Pepino's on Capitol

By Courtny Gerrish

BROOKFIELD - Food had to be thrown out and this restaurant had some orders to do some deep cleaning. The manager of this Italian place in Waukesha County says it's all been taken care of.

Pepino's on Capitol has food in a cooler on the grill line kept too warm. Lasagna at 65 degrees, pasta was at 69 and chicken registered at 68 degrees. The safe cold temperature is 41. That food had to be thrown out.

The manager told me by phone the food was stored in a working cooler downstairs and was only in the malfunctioning one a short time.

Hand washing was also an issue. The report states "did not note any hand washing at time of inspection."

Pepino's on Capitol was also ordered to clean throughout the restaurant. Floors, walls, ceilings and the ice machine.

There was also potentially hazardous food not being marked with expiration dates.

The manager is working with the health department. A follow up inspection confirms that. The restaurant's final re inspection is set for next week.
