Dirty Dining: Chicago Sub

By Courtny Gerrish

MILWAUKEE - A takeout place on the city's north side is ordered to clean things up or be shut down. Chicago Sub on 37th and Burleigh. Inspectors found a live roach in the kitchen and mouse droppings in the building. There was also an open package of rodent bait on the kitchen floor under the bun racks. The owner wasn't there when we stopped by but told me by phone all critical violations were corrected in 24 hours. Inspectors found things like no expiration dates on prepared food. The walls, floor and ceiling were "very dirty and greasy," as were containers holding food ingredients. Boxes that held raw chicken were washed and then reused to line tubs full of cooked chicken wings. Chicago Sub had to throw out 20 pounds of wings. The owner told me he has "nothing to hide" but didn't want our cameras inside Chicago Sub until the re-inspection.
