A restaurant that used to be in trouble with the health department and a pizza joint doing things right in the 'burbs. Both get Blue Ribbon Awards this week!
Chinese Chef on 78th and Appleton, known for its orange chicken and grandma's egg roll recipe.
Back in 2006 the health department shut this place down. Then Ken Lee took over for his sick uncle. Lee tells us, "I put a lot of myself into the restaurant."
For the past three years Lee has owned Milwaukee's oldest Chinese restaurant. He has nothing but clean health inspections to show for it. "We take pride in our cleaning and we clean every single night, and there's nothing we don't clean here," Lee said.
Chinese Chef gets our first Blue Ribbon award.
Out in Brookfield the Glass Nickel Pizza Company is just getting started. Owned by Gina and Shane Dilman for only about a year.
The Fetalicious is the number one selling pizza..made in a clean kitchen. "It's something you have to stay on top of on a daily basis, absolutely," Shane said.
For keeping a clean restaurant, Glass Nickel Pizza Company gets our second Blue Ribbon award.
Gina made sure the employees got a good word, "kudos to our staff because they do a really good job of keeping everything clean."
