Dirty Dining: Lyle's Sandwich Shop

By Courtny Gerrish

MILWAUKEE - We've visited this place before and this time around there are new violations. Things like mouse droppings, food not kept cold enough and a dirty kitchen. Lyle's Sandwich Shop on Green Bay, north of Capitol. We were here about a year ago, and now a health inspection full of violations brought us back. Inspectors found mouse droppings inside the cabinets. They were also on the floor in the kitchen. The top part of a cooler was not cold enough. The restaurant was ordered not to store hazardous food there. On this visit, we didn't get very far. The owner told me I was not welcome as soon as my photographer and I walked through the door. Inspectors also wrote up the restaurant for not marking ready to eat food with expiration dates. It has a shelf life of seven days. Rotted potatoes, onions and other debris were on the floor. Overall, the inspector noted, "the kitchen and premises are extremely dirty." The roof was also leaking in an area where the restaurant preps food. The owner told me what he usually does when we stop by and I ask if he's cleaned things up, "we always do what we're supposed to do," he told me.
