Dirty Dining: Ancient Well Restaurant & Lounge

By Courtny Gerrish

MILWAUKEE - A Chinese place on Milwaukee’s south side is in trouble with health inspectors again. Ancient Well Restaurant and Lounge in the 2500 block of KK has been in trouble with health inspectors before. TODAY’S TMJ4’s Courtny Gerrish: “Did you clean everything up?” “I did,” Ancient Well Restaurant and Lounge’s owner said in July of 2007. In July of 2007, we were allowed in the kitchen. This time around, the owner never called us back. We wanted to ask about the raw shrimp stored over punch in the cooler: a contamination risk if the shrimp juice spills. We also wanted to ask about a small bowl used to scoop Chinese noodles. Employee’s hands could contaminate the food. Inspectors also found an ice scoop kept in a dusty bucket and a wedge of lettuce, stored on rusty racks in a fridge. The restaurant was ordered to clean food debris out of its strainers and pick up the toys and stroller kept in the coffee area. Inspectors also said dishes have a strong chemical smell. Inspectors told the restaurant to use a different product to pre-soak dishes. Click on the link under related content to see inspection reports for Milwaukee area restaurants.
