Dirty Dining: El Campesino

By Courtny Gerrish

MILWAUKEE - A grocery store on the city's south side can't seem to clean things up. Inspectors have been back three times. El Campesino on 6th and Greenfield: a grocery store that can't seem to clean up its violations. Inspectors have fined the owner more than $450. Inspectors found things like raw meat sitting out at room temperature, ground beef registered at 80 degrees. That's way above the safe temperature of 41 degrees. Inspectors found the meat cutting equipment needed washing and sanitizing, and inspectors ordered moldy cheese thrown out. They also found old produce in the store. Doors to the meat and produce cooler were not closing all the way. That could cause a temperature problem. Fly strips were loaded with dead flies. The grocery store also has a fruit fly problem. The owner was not there when TODAY’S TMJ4 stopped by and did not call us to explain the violations.
