Dirty DiningDirty Dining: Whole FoodsBy Courtny Gerrish
UPDATE: Whole Foods was reinspected by the health department and has cleaned up its violations.
MILWAUKEE - It takes "grocery shopping" to a whole new level. Many love to shop here and grab a bite to eat. Now this place is having to clean things up after inspectors find problems throughout the store.
Whole Foods on Prospect Avenue is a grocery shopping experience. It's also a place where customers can grab a bite to eat, at the salad bar, the hot bar, or something ready-to-go.
Now it has has to clean things up after health inspectors found some problems.
Things like, smoked fish at 51 degrees. That's 10 degrees warmer than the safe cold temperature. Inspectors also saw smoked meat, that was spoiled.
We took out hidden camera inside to check things out. We found fish with "sell-by" dates of October 15th. We were there on the 16th.
Inspectors also wrote up Whole Foods for outdated yogurt in display coolers and chicken not cooked to appropriate temperatures. They found some cooked food with no expiration dates. We saw no date on sushi rolls, which are made with raw fish.
Display coolers were not keeping food cold enough. A spokesperson for Whole Foods claims that was fixed immediately.
Kate Klotz also says these violations have been "addressed as human error. Anything on the report will absolutely be fixed as soon as possible. Whole Foods takes the safety of its customers very seriously."
Whole Foods was also inspected back in May. It had some of the same problems. Things like cold food kept too warm at some of the food bars, and coolers at unsafe temperatures.
