Dirty Dining: Tu Trinh

By Courtny Gerrish

MILWAUKEE - A local restaurant serving up Vietnamese Cuisine is also serving up a dose of danger.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Courtny Gerrish visited Tu-Trinh restaurant on 27th and Lincoln for this week's Dirty Dining. Health inspectors found workers doing things that could make their customers sick.

Foods that are supposed to be kept refrigerated were on counters at room temperature. This includes foods like condensed milk, an oil mixture, and raw ground beef that were found at a warm 62 degrees. The safe temperature is 41 degrees or lower.

They also had a fruit fly problem around a sink full of dirty dishes and in the bar area. We asked about that. Their response? "Oh it's been cleaned up. You don't see anything right now. After the inspection we correct that."

We asked if they would show us the kitchen area to show our viewers that it's been cleaned up, but they declined. "No, it's still a little messy with the dishes and stuff," they told us.

Other things the health department found during the inspection: utensils stored in a dirty container, no expiration dates on cooked food, and workers not properly washing their hands. "I'm short staffed. I'm here by myself, and the other lady she's out of town, she's in Vietnam," the owner said.

Inspectors will be back at Tu Trinh to see if they've cleaned things up. We'll keep you posted.
