Dirty Dining: Gyros West
Courtny Gerrish
WAUKESHA - This restaurant is a popular lunch spot and what some call the "best gyros in town."
Here's what inspectors found in the kitchen:
Gyros West is on Moreland Boulevard. It's specialty: gyros of course, but inspectors found the meat slicer soiled with dried food debris.
Inspectors also found large containers of chili and soup, not cooled the right way. Inspectors ordered that food thrown out.
Soup was not kept warm enough. They also saw raw and cooked potatoes in a large pot on the kitchen floor, which is a violation.
"When she was here it must have been on the floor before you put it on top of the oven," the owner, Leo Haideman said.
Haideman also showed TODAY'S TMJ4's Courtny Gerrish the cooler inspectors claim was too warm. According to the report, it was at 59 degrees. The safe temperature is 41. The owner says their maintenance guy checked it out and found nothing wrong.
"You can still put your hand against the steel. It's cold," Haideman said.
Inspectors also found no expiration dates on prepared food. The owner claims they are working with the health department to clean things up.
