Dirty Dining: Lyle's Sandwich Shop
Courtny Gerrish
MILWAUKEE - Food is not being kept at safe temperatures and employees are handling customer's food with their bare hands.
Here's what else inspectors found at a north side sandwich shop:
Lyle's Sandwich Shop on Green Bay, north of Capitol has been serving up hot buttered sandwiches and malts since 1988. It's also serving up some dirty dining.
Inspectors saw employees not washing their hands between tasks, an ongoing problem with this place. Inspectors also found things like food handlers cracking eggs and then touching toast and washing counters and then touching buns.
The owner didn't want to be on camera but did answer a few questions. He says they're working on cleaning things up. As for the repeat violations? His response was, "cuz we're human. Show me a restaurant that doesn't have any."
The dish machine isn't properly washing or sanitizing dishes. Potentially hazardous food was not cold enough. Eggs were at 63 degrees. The safe temperature is 41.
Mold was growing on the soda nozzles. A bowl, used to scramble eggs, was covered with dried debris. Wet rags were also sitting out on counters. TODAY'S TMJ4 saw one during our visit. Rags are supposed to be stored in sanitizing solution.
Lyle's Sandwich Shop has had problems with hand washing in its last four inspections.
