Dirty Dining: Lena's Food Market
Courtny Gerrish
MILWAUKEE - At Lena's Food Market on Holton and Concordia inspectors found a list of violations: things like moldy meat for sale in the display cooler.
Smoked fish was labeled wrong. It was marked as smoked chubs. The inspector noted in the report: "it was clearly not smoked chubs."
Cut fruit was kept too warm and some prepared food didn't have expiration dates. When we showed the inspection report to the owner, he was surprised by the violations.
"Obviously we have some employees that have made some mistakes and did not follow proper procedures. You don't want to have something like this taking place in your establishment," Greg Martin said.
Inspectors also found no hot water in the meat department, meaning workers couldn't wash their hands properly.
There was open rodent bait in one part of the building. Mouse droppings, and a few dead mice, were found in the basement. It's not the first time Lena's has been cited for problems with mice.
"You know we have to have it corrected by the 28th. It will be corrected by the 28th," Martin said.
