Dirty Dining: Taco Loco

Courtny Gerrish

MILWAUKEE - Health inspectors found a list of violations at Taco Loco, inside the El Rey food mart on 35th and Burnham.

When we stopped by, we also noticed a few of our own.

An employee was preparing customer's food with bare hands.

Inspectors saw both cooks on duty touching ready to eat food, like tortillas and burritos, without gloves.

Also in the report, a cook cracked raw eggs then handled clean plates and cooked tortillas. That's a cross contamination risk.

Hot food was not being kept warm enough and there were fruit flies in the kitchen.

At one point inspectors saw condensation on the ceiling dripping into an open bucket of food.

Inspectors also noted raw meat leaning on an unprotected pile of cooked ham. The restaurant was ordered to throw it away.

The owner told us every thing's been cleaned up. Ernesto Villarreal also says he plans on working with food handlers to make sure they understand safe health guidelines.
