MILWAUKEE - Hungry for Mexican? You're in luck. Or how about a creative way to bring the kitchen to you? We're giving out Blue Ribbon Awards this week.
Cielito Lindo on 2nd and National. This family business opened in 1996. Owner Lorenzo Lopez tells me they "started with one employee, and now I have like 17, I think, employees."
But Lopez still works hard, "seven days a week. Sometimes work all day, but I need to keep it clean for my customers." And he does. The last three health inspections were spotless. Cielito Lindo gets our first Blue Ribbon Award.
On to the Third Ward and Catalano Square where Pita Brothers has set up shop for this lunch hour.
Vijay Swearingen and his brother Manoj bring their pitas, homemade hummus and tahini sauce to you. "Typically we serve 50, 60 customers for lunch," Vijay told us. "We try to stay healthy and yummy. People seem to come back and enjoy it."
They converted an electric utility truck into a kitchen, and it's a clean one. You know what that means, they get our second Blue Ribbon Award.
Look for Pita Brothers in the Third Ward Tuesdays and Thursdays. The rest of the week they're by Marquette. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter for exact locations.
