Thai Lotus repeats health code violations
MILWAUKEE- A Thai spot on the city's south side fined by the health department.
Thai Lotus on 38th and National is making some of the same mistakes they've been written up for in the past. Like storing food on the floor, bags of carrots, boxes of produce and pots of stock were sitting on the floor of a cooler. Food must be kept off the ground -- a violation that was also on Thai Lotus' 2007 health inspection.
We stopped by then and talked to a manager. This time around the owner wasn't there but did follow up with a phone call. He claims he took over the restaurant last year from other family members and tells us he's working to keep things clean.
But health inspectors found cooked chicken stored in a cardboard box that first held raw chicken, and there was raw meat stored over ready to eat produce -- that's a cross contamination risk. A bag of frozen chicken was not being thawed properly. And employees food co-mingled with the food being served to customers. It must be kept separate.
Thai Lotus has to pay a $107 fine. The restaurant will be reinspected next week.
