Dirty Dining
Mouse, rat droppings found throughout Chicago Sub
MILWAUKEE- Mouse and rat droppings, a dirty deli slicer, flies -- what's going on in one north side restaurant? We talked to the owner of Chicago Sub on 42nd and Capitol about the problems.
The owner's been in business 12 years. He was there but didn't want to comment on camera about things like a deli slicer soiled with old food debris, and dead drain flies on the table behind the slicer.
French fries were not kept warm enough.
There were no expiration dates on prepared food, and things like coleslaw, tartar sauce, roast beef and corned beef.
The inspector found mouse and rat droppings throughout the building; next to the furnace, in the soda storage area and under the deli slicer table. Because of the rodent problem, Chicago Sub was ordered to keep everything off the floor, even soda.
The owner told us both he and his manager were gone for a month, and that's when the problems started. But Chicago Sub doesn't have a good inspection history. From 2007 to date only one, from May of this year, was clean.
The owner did show me paperwork for monthly pest control. He says the rodent problem has been solved and he's working on fixing the other violations.
