Advice for Stranded Travelers
MILWAUKEE - Would you know what to do if you were stranded when traveling abroad? A number of people may be dealing with this problem now, especially as a result of the problems created by the Iceland volcano.
Telling travelers to wait it out is not always an acceptable answer, especially if they are running low on cash or have a desperate need to get to their destination.
If you run into a serious problem as a result of being stranded, here is where you might be able to turn for help:
If you are out of cash, you might be able to get emergency help from your credit card company, motor club, such as aaa, or by contacting the us consulate office.
If you have an emergency reason for needing to get to your destination, , you might be able to get help from these same resources, but you might also be able to get help from your airline or travel agent with alternative flights or other modes of transportation.
Before you book a trip, you might want to consider travel and trip cancellation insurance. However, keep in mind that not all plans will cover every situation, and coverage may be very limited.
