Call 4 Action: Try Out Holiday Gifts Sooner than Later
Did you get something for Christmas and are waiting until later to try it out?
Don't wait too long.
The time alloted for expiration dates, warranties and the ability to return an item may not be for as long as you think.
If you were fortunate to receive a gift card or something that came with a warranty, you may want to think about using it sooner than later.
Expiration dates, limited return policies and out-of-business issued can lead to a lot of disappointment if you wait too long to enjoy a special gift.
• If you receive a gift card or gift certificate, check for expiration dates, terms and conditions, and also the stability of the business.
If you wait too long, you may find that the card or certificate becomes worthless, especially if the store or restaurant goes out of business or changes ownership.
• If you receive a gift that would appear to have a warranty, make sure to try out the produce immediately.
If the warranty has expired, ask if the giftor used a credit card for the purchase.
Some credit card companies double a manufacturers warranty.
• If the gift is less than perfect, take it back within the next few days with a receipt and all packaging.
If you think you will be returning the item, try not to open it.
Some stores will not take back an item once it has been opened.
If the warranty or expiration date has passed, or the store has closed, do not assume that you are out of luck.
Some businesses or manufacturers may be willing to offer other options, but keep in mind that they may not be obligated to do so.
