You may want to take some precautions, especially if you are hoping to return an item later. What should we keep in mind as we wrap up that holiday shopping? Keep your receipts, the original package, and don't assume that it can all be returned. What might we not be able to return? Merchandise that was on clearance, holiday-themed items and some electronics. What if you already bought these items and didn't keep receipts, packaging or ask about return policies? Is there anything you can do? Some stores may be willing to take back holiday items if you bought them before Christmas Eve. If you bought something on clearance, and you cannot get a refund, ask if the store would be willing to do an even exchange or in-store credit. Some stores may be willing to work with you if you ask. However, if you are faced with a flat-out "no," you may want to sell it on your own, save it for next year, or donate it for charity. Any other last-minute reminders? Watch pricing at the register, don't exceed your credit limit and pay your credit card bill on time. Failure to do so could affect your credit score and ability to borrow or refinance debts later. |
