Before you buy one, you might want to check out the financial stability of the store or business and terms of conditions for buying an using one of these cards.

Gift cards can be a great solution if you are having a hard time finding the perfect gift.

But, you have to be careful.

Financial struggles and strict terms and conditions could lead to a card becoming unusable, especially if the store or business goes out of business.

Before you drop down cash for a gift card:

• Ask questions about the terms and conditions for using the card, and what happens to the value if a store or business closes.

Ask if the card can be used for online purchases or if it will be honored by a different business.

• You might also want to search for information on your own about the financial stability of the organization. Not all businesses will let you know of a possible closing.

• If you learn that the store or business may be at risk of closing, make sure to let the recipient know that the card should be used as soon as possible.

Also, when buying a card, make sure that you keep your receipt, just in case the value did not load properly or to help track the card if it is lost or stolen.
