And, due to some changes in the program, more people are eligible. Due to an increase in the income limits, more people are going to be eligible for assistance. Previously, eligibility was based on federal poverty income levels. However, this year, eligibility is based on incomes that are 60 percent of the state's medium income level, which allows families to have a much higher income, and still qualify for assistance. Also, those who apply and qualify for energy assistance might also qualify for the state's weatherization program.
