Call 4 Action: Clean Up and Recycle

  • Print

Old appliances, old clothes, and miscellaneous household items can sometimes fetch a few bucks at a rummage sale.

Sometimes, your junk is anything but another man's treasure.

What do you do with these unwanted treasures?

Well depending upon the condition of the items, you may be able to

• Donate or sell gently used items to a resale shop or online.
• Get help from a store who will take back an old appliance when a new one is delivered.
• Utilize recycling and disposal program for unwanted items.

If you have items that did not sell in a rummage sale, you might want to

• Contact your local sanitation department to ask if they offer a special pickup,
• Contact local organizations such as Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, Purple Heart or American Council for the Blind, and ask about items they accept.

Some may even be willing to pick up the items directly from your home.

However, keep in mind, they may not be able to take everything.

Despite trying to sell or donate items, you may still be left with some items that cannot be easily discarded or accepted by charity.

Before placing these items in the trash, you may want to contact your local sanitation department, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources or the Environmental Protection Agency.
